I believe that diets don't work. The word "diet" to me implies restriction or a quick fix. What does work and what is important is a lifestyle change. This change could be to lose weight, fight diabetes, boost energy, help acne(WATER WATER WATER), relieve stress, increase sleep, or just live.

It would like to stress that what works for me might not work for you. Our bodies and activity level are as particuluar as our personalities. For example, I have to eat small high protein and whole grain meals every 2-3 hours. This helps me not freak out or send my insinlin out of control. It also stablizes my energy and keeps me going to the next meal.

The bottom line is that a food regiment should be seen as a guideline. A guideline to be adapted for a person's metabolism, eating habits, exercise level, sleep patterns, protein needs, and water intake. These factors are unique to each individual and thus must be taken equally into consideration by the eater in order for food choices to be effective.

Slick Deal: Free whole wheat rolls at Metro Cafe in the Fashion District.

If you find yourself in NYC's Fashion District hungry and on a budget check out Metro Cafe. This place sells milk for $1.10 and it comes with a free whole wheat roll. This gives you 9 grams of protein and a whole grain--that buys me about 45 minutes of time to get to my next meal.

Personal Challenge Event: Try eating 10 more grams of protein a day. A good way to add protein to any meal is nuts, eggs, meat(personal favorite), or yogurt!

Yogurt is a great way to get extra protein and keep your digestion system in order!

Remember- We are what we eat!! Have a great day!

Laura

We are what we eat!

Hi and good day!

I decided to start this blog to state my opinion on food and how it makes me feel. I am firm believer that what we eat affects our mood, our energy, and our day. I must also say though that my opinion is not to deprive ourselves of tasty things like hot wings with cool blue cheese dressing or a perfect slice of pie.

In fact, if you live in the NYC area and are looking for a great deal check out 1849 at 183 Bleecker Street between MacDougal and Sullivan. On Wednesday nights, they serve up respectable spicy hot wings- ten for 20 cents and $7.00 pitchers!

http://www.1849nyc.com/

In a recent discussion on Nurtition, I identified that my biggest worry about how people eat is really about awareness. It is vital to notice how our bodies feel after eating a particular food. Take a minute several hours after a meal and see how you feel. Sustained? Annoyed? Please don't ever forget..we are what we eat!

Challenge yourself: Take one week and drink 8 glasses of water each day. Post how you feel after day 2, day 4, and day 7. I promise your mood with only get better!
